Parker a chance for early Broncos return

Brisbane forward Corey Parker is making a bold bid to play against South Sydney on Friday, nine days after suffering a deep leg cut for Queensland during Origin II.

Parker said on Monday he would have a full training run with the Broncos on Thursday morning before making a decision about playing with the aid of a protective shin guard and padding on his lower leg.

Brisbane skipper Sam Thaiday (shoulder) is also hoping to return for the special day at Suncorp Stadium which will celebrate the 300th game of highly respected prop Petero Civoniceva.

Thaiday, who ruled himself out of Origin II in Sydney last week, has undergone intensive physiotherapy to strengthen his shoulder and is expected to return to tackle Souths.

An early comeback by Parker would improve his prospects of playing in next month’s Origin series decider with Queensland selectors considering changes after the 16-12 loss and an injury to star fullback Billy Slater.
