Rugby league’s most famous head of hair is gone, with Canterbury coach Des Hasler chopping the mop on Wednesday.
The two-time premiership-winning coach agreed to have his head shaved in order to raise $100,000 for Camp Quality – a charity with which his NRL club has a strong association.
Hasler said his locks had scarcely enjoyed more than a trim in the past 25 years.
“And I reckon it will be 25 years before I have another one,” he joked.
But unlike the Biblical character Samson, who lost his strength when his hair was cut, Hasler isn’t concerned about his coaching prowess diminishing.
Rather, he is simply excited about witnessing the rugby league community coming together to raise valuable funds for Camp Quality, who focus on improving the lives of children and families affected by cancer.
“(My act) pales into insignificance when you look at (what they go through),” Hasler said.
