West Coast’s Kerr certain to play

West Coast coach John Worsfold has declared Daniel Kerr a certain starter for Sunday’s AFL clash with St Kilda despite the star midfielder being struck down by food poisoning earlier this week.

Kerr’s face swelled up heavily and his eyes covered over after suffering an adverse reaction to a meal on Monday, with teammate Nic Naitanui posting a graphic picture of Kerr’s plight on twitter.

Worsfold was unsure what food caused the allergic reaction, but said Kerr had since recovered.

Kerr displayed no outward signs of the food poisoning when he joined his teammates at training on Wednesday.

“If there was any residual effects, then he wouldn’t be training today, but he’s back bouncing around and ready to go, having a laugh,” Worsfold said on Wednesday.

“He’s 100 per cent.

“He needed some medical treatment, some anti-histamines are the normal sort of thing.

“It’s certainly not taking away that it could have been serious. Food allergies obviously can be very dangerous.”

Worsfold said Naitanui (hamstring) and Ash Smith (ankle) were good chances to return against the Saints, while Adam Selwood (hand) would have to prove his fitness later in the week.

Midfielder Matt Priddis (concussion) also faces more tests, while defender Will Schofield returns from suspension.
