Former Wests Tigers player Pat Richards grabbed a hat-trick in Wigan’s 56-12 demolition of Hull to keep up the pressure on Super League leaders Huddersfield.
The 2005 NRL premiership winner got the visitors off to the perfect start with two quickfire tries and topped it off with his third two minutes after the restart.
Richards was joined on the scoresheet by Thomas Leuluai, who will rejoin New Zealand Warriors next season, Josh Charnley, who finished with two, Gareth Hock, Sam Tomkins, Michael McIlorum and ex-Melbourne Storm half-back Brett Finch.
Meanwhile Nathan Brown’s troops were narrow 20-6 victors in their clash with Bradford courtesy of tries from Jermaine McGilvary, Luke George and Danny Brough, who also kicked four goals.
Brown saw Huddersfield retain their two-point cushion over Warriors despite Michael Platt’s effort for the home side in the first half.
Brett Hodgson was the star of the show as Warrington returned to winning ways with an impressive 54-6 victory over Castleford.
The Australian fullback crossed twice for his team while also adding seven conversions for a 22-point haul while Joel Monaghan notched two tries of his own in the convincing display.
In Sunday’s other game, Blake Green helped Hull KR to a 44-16 win over London Broncos.
David Hodgson grabbed a hat-trick with Kris Welham also crossing the whitewash twice despite Chad Randall’s and Shane Rodney’s best efforts – Randall grabbing a try and Rodney claiming eight points in all.
On Saturday, Dean Collis gave Wakefield the platform that eventually saw off Salford City Reds 26-22.
The former Cronulla Sharks centre was joined on the scoresheet by Danny Washbrook, Frankie Mariano and Peter Fox.
Daniel Holdsworth and Chris Nero crossed for Salford.
Former Australia forward Steve Menzies was unable to stop Catalans Dragons slipping to their first defeat in four games as defending champions Leeds emerged 34-18 winners on Friday.
Menzies crossed just after the break but the damage had already been done by two Ben Jones-Bishop tries and one each from Zak Hardaker and Ryan Hall.
Anthony Laffranchi grabbed two tries in St Helens’ 62-0 demolition of strugglers Widnes to record their fourth Super League victory in five games.
