Brisbane youngsters Ben Hunt and Corey Norman have been named in the halves for the Broncos NRL trial against North Queensland at Redcliffe on Saturday night.
Coach Anthony Griffin’s biggest task for the coming season will be to find someone to fill the void left by the irreplaceable Darren Lockyer at five-eighth.
Former NSW Origin representative Peter Wallace, who will not play against the Cowboys, has the halfback spot sewn up with Hunt and Norman expected to be fighting it out to wear the No.6 jersey.
Another potential option to slot into the halves, the versatile Jordan Kahu, has been named in the centres alongside Dale Copley.
Off-season recruit Luke Capewell, who joins the team from the Gold Coast Titans, will debut at hooker.
The 21-man squad, which will be coached by Broncos assistant Kristian Woolf, is filled largely by young players as well as veteran prop Scott Anderson.
Squad: Dane Gagai, Aaron Whitchurch, Dale Copley, Jordan Kahu, Lachlan Maranta, Ben Hunt, Corey Norman, Scott Anderson, Luke Capewell, Dunamis Lui, Nick Slyney, Mitchell Frei, Brendon Gibb.
