Aussies 6-267 at lunch in 2nd Test

Australia were getting closer to their goal of 300, reaching 6-267 at lunch on day two of the second Test against the West Indies in Trinidad.

In a rain-marred session, Australia overcame the early loss of Matthew Wade (11) and some probing Windies bowling with Michael Hussey unbeaten on 54 at the break.

Fast bowler James Pattinson, who played and missed at several deliveries, was 24 not out at the other end in an unbroken 59-run stand for the seventh wicket.

Wade fell in the second over of the day, edging a Kemar Roach (3-96) delivery to Darren Bravo at first slip without adding to the overnight score of 208.

Hussey was fortunate to survive on 47 when wicketkeeper Carlton Baugh fumbled a stumping chance with the veteran batsman stranded after being beaten by off-spinner Shane Shillingford (2-70).

It was the second let-off for the 36-year-old in his innings after Baugh dropped him on day one, also off the luckless Shillingford.

Rain brought an early end to the session and further showers are forecast throughout the day’s play.
