Crows re-sign AFL pair Petrenko, Smith

AFL club Adelaide have re-signed young pair Jared Petrenko and Brodie Smith for an unspecified period of time.

Crows’ general manager football operations Phil Harper confirmed Petrenko and Smith had agreed to contract extensions.

“We have a good, core group of young players, who we believe will take the club forward, and Jared and Brodie are a big part of that,” Harper said.

“As a team, we’ve made a positive start to the year and Jared and Brodie have both showed signs they are ready to have strong seasons.”

Petrenko has played 36 games for the club after an injury-interrupted start to his career, and is hoping to spend more time in the midfield this year.

Smith, drafted with the Crows’ first selection in the 2010 draft, made his AFL debut against Hawthorn in round one last season and played another 13 matches in his debut year.

The 20-year-old added 3kg to his frame during pre-season training and was one of Adelaide’s better performers in their successful pre-season cup campaign.
