News:
Forgotten two-year-old Madeenaty will press her claims for a 2017 Golden Slipper start in a stakes race at Flemington.
The Lindsay Park-trained filly runs in the Listed News Sport Stakes (1000m) on Saturday as a lead-up to the Golden Slipper at Rosehill two weeks later.
A debut winner at Flemington last October, Madeenaty hasn’t raced since finishing third behind Houtzen in the Magic Millions Classic at the Gold Coast last month.
She has been in the background as the stable concentrated on its six runners in the Blue Diamond Stakes which it won on Saturday with Catchy.
Madeenaty had a jump-out at Flemington on Friday when Lindsay Park experimented riding her behind horses.
“It’s hard with her, especially up the straight, with the way she begins,” co-trainer Tom Dabernig said.
“I don’t think we’ll necessarily drag her back but it might open up another avenue for her.
“She’s got such a big action that when she hits the front she floats but she’s on track for Sydney so she’ll need to run well.”
Dabernig said Madeenaty had returned to Lindsay Park’s country property at Euroa following her Gold Coast placing and was brought back to Flemington last week.
He said Boom Time, who also ran at the Gold Coast last month, was trained from the country property before his win at Caulfield on Saturday.
“They come home and they stay in training but we train them out of a paddock,” Dabernig said.
“We put them out in the paddock during the day, so it’s a bit like a working holiday.”
Exciting Moonee Valley debut winner Muraaqeb heads to Canberra on Sunday to run in the Black Opal to stake his claim for a Slipper start.
“He seems to have done really well working on the other leg (clockwise) but it’s not going to be easy,” Dabernig said.
“It will be a hot race being two weeks out from the Golden Slipper.
“I think he’s the right sort of horse to do it but you have to keep taking those next steps.”
Madeenaty is currently a $26 dollar chance with Luxbet.com to win the Golden Slipper.
