News:
Irish horse Order Of St George is the early favourite for the Melbourne Cup ahead of the release of nominations for Australia’s most famous race.
Entries for this year’s $6 million Melbourne Cup close at midday on Tuesday and will be announced two hours later.
The Melbourne Cup (3200m) is at Flemington on November 1.
Trained by Aidan O’Brien, Order Of St George is at $11 with the Darren Weir-trained Signoff at $15 and Mick Price-trained Tarzino at $18.
Weir trained his first Cup winner last year when outsider Prince Of Penzance beat Irish horse Max Dynamite to give jockey Michelle Payne a famous victory.
