News:
A horse bred by one of the famous names in world race calling has given his son a maiden victory at Geelong.
Australian born race caller and journalist Jim McGrath, recognised for his commentary in England, bred the two-year-old Larrikin who is trained by his son Brian.
Starting at $101, Larrikin was ridden by Jackie Beriman in the maiden race at Geelong on Friday.
Larrikin was McGrath’s 15th race starter since his first runner in August last year when he set up stables at Cranbourne after working for trainers Robert Smerdon and Chris Waller.
“I’m thrilled to have some supportive and patient owners and thank you to my father who bred this horse and will be watching in England,” McGrath told racing.com.
“I’m just thrilled to get a winner and get on the board.”
