Rogers feels pressure to keep Test form

Chris Rogers knows that he’s only a couple of failures away from hearing the dogs barking again.

The Australian opener has gone a long way to booking a berth for next year’s Ashes tour with three-straight 50s.

But the 35-year-old is well aware that he is only three straight failures away from coming under pressure again.

Rogers was filthy when he was dismissed for 57 on day one of the Boxing Day Test against India.

He and Shane Watson had rescued Australia with a 115-run stand for the second wicket after Dave Warner’s dismissal in the second over left them 1-0.

It follows Rogers’ twin 55s in the Brisbane Test.

He would love to be part of an Australian team that retains the Ashes in England next year.

But first he must keep making runs to guarantee selection.

“It’s a tough business and you guys (media) have got things to write about,” he said.

“I’m not stupid enough to think that I own a place in this side and it’s still a privilege, so I’m just trying to make the most of it.

“I don’t know how long I can go, but I do feel my age at times, definitely.”

Rogers said it was frustrating not to build on Friday’s solid start.

“Three scores in the 50s is good in some respects, but it’s also very disappointing,” he said.

“As an opener, you do the hard work and put yourself in a position where you can get a big score.

“To get out like that was disappointing because I felt good today.

“My feet were going and I had a real desire to get a big score.”
