Goodes waiting till end of AFL season

Sydney stalwart Adam Goodes says he still has a lot to offer, but won’t decide whether to play on for what would be a 17th AFL campaign until the current one is over.

The 34-year-old dual Brownlow medallist and club’s all-time appearance record holder plays his 350th game in Friday night’s preliminary final against North Melbourne at ANZ Stadium.

Drafted in 1997, Goodes played his first AFL game back in 1999.

“Playing on next year is definitely something that hasn’t come into my head space over the last two months,” Goodes said on Wednesday.

“All those thoughts and decisions I think will be made post season for me.

“I’m truly excited about this weekend and playing in a home prelim.”

Goodes said he was pleased to have played 18 straight games after having concerns in the pre-season during a lengthy rehabilitation from a knee injury.

“The enthusiasm is still there and the desire is still there to suit up and play at this level,” Goodes said.

“I still think I’ve a lot to offer at this level as well, so what happens in the next couple of weeks will play itself out.”

Sydney defender Nick Malceski, who was substituted early in the Swans’ qualifying final due to a hamstring issue, ran freely at training and looks on course to play on Friday night.
