The Tattersall’s Tiara is a wieght-for-age event for fillies and mares three years and older.  The inaugural edition of this race was won by La Posette, back when this race was a Listed Event.  The Tattersall’s Tiara, known as the Winter Stakes until recently in 2011, became a Group 3 race in 1996, a Group 2 race in 2006, and a Group 1 race in 2007.

Originally run over 1500 metres, this event became a 1400 metre race in 2007 and has stayed at this distance since then.  While it mostly attracts local competitors, the Tattersall’s Tiara increasingly attracts interstate runners looking for a relatively easy Group 1 race.  Early winners included Mamzelle Pedrille in 1995, Tripping in 1996, Dane Ripper in 1997, and Bonanova in 1999 and 2000.

In more recent times, winners of the Tattersall’s Tiara include Nova Star in 2007, Absolut Glam in 2008, Russeting in 2009, Melito in 2010, Yosei  in 2011, Pear Tart in 2012, and Red Tracer in 2013.  Female gallopers are likely to come into this event from the Group 3 Lady Of The Turf Stakes at Doomben earlier in the carnival, with the Group 3 Dane Ripper Quality at Eagle Farm also a good lead up event.  Held on Tattersall’s Tiara Day, this race marks the end of the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival.
