Collingwood AFL captain Scott Pendlebury didn’t train with the main group on Tuesday but the Magpies say he should be fine for Saturday’s round-three clash with Geelong.
Pendlebury had scans on Monday on his injured ankle.
“Pendlebury got a knock to his lower leg which pushed his ankle over a little bit,” Collingwood football manager Rodney Eade said.
“His ankle seems ok, but (the scan) was more precautionary.”
Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley said Pendlebury had trained indoors and his workload would be managed this week.
Buckley said key defender Lachlan Keeffe was a likely inclusion for the MCG clash.
Nathan Brown’s shoulder injury has left the Magpies looking for another big man to slot into defence against Geelong’s key forwards including Tom Hawkins.
“The likelihood is that we’ll take in an extra tall for support down there,” Buckley told a media conference on Tuesday.
“They’ve got the three big fellows, the two ruckmen and Mark Blicavs, who has been playing in all positions, as well as Tom Hawkins.”
Ben Sinclair’s hamstring complaint puts half-forward Alex Fasolo, who has been trialled in defence at VFL level, in the frame for a senior recall against the Cats.
Onballer and 2011 Brownlow Medallist Dane Swan had a rare quiet game in last week’s win over Sydney at ANZ Stadium, gathering 16 disposals.
The three-time club champion has averaged 30 possessions or better in each of the past five seasons.
Buckley says Swan has suffered because of an interrupted pre-season training load caused by wrist injuries.
“You’ll see a sharp spike in what Swannie produces this week and we’re looking forward to seeing that,” Buckley said.
“He’s a proud footballer.
“He’s been able to get a lot of aerobic work in. That burst from the packs which we’ve come to know from him, that’s on its way back.
“He’s well and truly due to find that connection with that strong running that we like to see.”
