Carlton’s Walker faces one-game AFL ban

Carlton’s dismal start to the AFL season has soured further with defender Andrew Walker facing a suspension.

Walker was reported in the last term of Sunday’s loss at Etihad Stadium for rough conduct when he threw Port’s Angus Monfries into the fence.

The Carlton backman was on Monday charged by the match review panel with a level-two, rough-conduct offence worth 225 demerit points, which can be reduced from a two-match ban to one match with an early guilty plea.

The incident was assessed as intentional, low impact and body contact.

The panel cleared Walker over his second-quarter clash with Port’s Justin Westhoff.

Walker made high contact with Westhoff in what the panel ruled was a genuine spoiling attempt.

Carlton face next fellow round-one losers Richmond at the MCG on March 27.

Meanwhile, Sydney’s Jarrad McVeigh has been charged with striking Greater Western Sydney’s Rhys Palmer during the second quarter of Saturday’s game at Spotless Stadium.

However, McVeigh’s six-year good record means he can accept a reprimand and 45 points towards his future record with an early plea.
