In the news:
Blake Shinn has been reminded of his responsibilities at the end of an inquiry into his ride on Zanbagh in the Light Fingers Stakes.
The Oaks-bound filly finished ninth in last Saturday’s 1200m race, running the fastest last sectional time of the day.
Stewards queried Shinn’s vigour during the race but an examination of the overall sectional times drew the conclusion she would not have finished any closer.
Trainer Guy Walter told stewards Shinn had ridden in compliance with his instructions which included not making a 600-metre run on the filly.
Shinn said the tempo of the race had taken Zanbagh out of her comfort zone but stewards were concerned about a lack of vigour from the jockey.
After studying the sectional times, stewards said although the first part of the race been run faster than average, the section from the 800m to the 400m was also quicker than average.
“We are not satisfied that if Zanbagh was ridden differently she would have finished closer,” chief steward Ray Murrihy said.
“Therefore we don’t deem it to be a blameworthy ride.
“But instructions are only a guide and it’s a jockey’s responsibility once in the race.
“You have to ride so there is no doubt.”
Zanbagh will run in next Saturday’s Surround Stakes (1400m) at Warwick Farm.
