Strike bowler Rangana Herath and in-form seamer Shaminda Eranga will miss Sri Lanka’s second Test against Bangladesh starting on Tuesday as they are returning home due to injury.
Sri Lanka Cricket said in a statement that opening batsman Kusal Perera and allrounder Thisara Perera would replace them in the squad. It did not specify the nature of the injuries to the players.
The two players made important contributions in the first Test, which the tourists won by an innings and 248 runs last week. Eranga took five wickets while Herath captured three.
Cricket officials also announced that star batsman Mahela Jayawardene will miss a three-match one-day international series against Bangladesh, which will follow the Test series and two Twenty20 games.
Herath and Jayawardene also missed out on five ODIs against Pakistan played in the United Arab Emirates last year for personal reasons.
Angelo Perera, a 23-year-old batsman who represented Sri Lanka in two one-dayers and a T20, has been called up fill the vacant batsman’s slot for the ODIs.
