Wickmayer to play Davis in WTA final

Yanina Wickmayer has booked a place in the final of the WTA Citi Open with a victory over Yulia Putintseva in Washington.

Seventh seed Wickmayer won the semi-final 6-4 6-2 to reach her first title decider of the year.

“It was very hot but it’s been like that every day so far. I knew she was going to make me work for every single point and it would be tough out there,” Wickmayer said.

“I just tried to stay positive, stay focused, go for my shots and stay aggressive.”

The Belgian faces Lauren Davis in the final after her 6-2 6-3 win over Jessica Pegula in a clash of 22-year-old Americans.

Wickmayer, who teamed with Monica Niculescu to win the doubles title Saturday, will be appearing in her 11th WTA singles final, while Davis is playing in her first.
