Tomic into Australian Open junior semis

Sara Tomic has beaten fellow Australian Baijing Lin to reach the semi-finals of the Australian Open girls’ championship at Melbourne Park.

The younger sister of Bernard, Tomic once again showcased her fighting qualities to beat Lin 6-1 5-7 6-2 on Thursday.

She is now one step closer to emulating her brother – now the men’s world No.17 – who won the Australian Open junior singles title in 2008.

Fellow Australian Alex De Minaur could also follow in his footsteps after closing in on a spot in the boys’ semi-finals on Thursday.

A semi-finalist at last year’s US Open junior singles, De Minaur was leading Greek third seed Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-7 (3-7) 7-5 5-0 when their quarter-final was suspended because of rain.
