Tomic among six Aussies in ATP top 100

Australia’s Bernard Tomic climbed from 124 to 70 in the latest ATP rankings published on Monday on the strength of his second career win in Bogota.

The 21-year-old defeated defending champion Ivo Karlovic 7-6 (7/5), 3-6, 7-6 (7/4) in Sunday’s final to add to his victory in the Sydney International in 2014.

Tomic’s career had taken a downward turn since making the fourth round of the 2012 Australian Open, a decline which saw his ATP ranking slip from 27.

But his impressive efforts in Colombia see him join five other Australians in the top 100.

Lleyton Hewitt has improved one position to 40th, Marinko Matosevic remains at 52, Nick Kyrgios improved one spot to 65, Matt Ebden has slipped five places and is ranked 86, while Sam Groth has improved seven places and is 92nd.

The only change in the top 10, headed by Serbia’s Novak Djokovic, involved Spain’s David Ferrer, who jumped one place into sixth.
