Tomic advances in Mexican Open

Bernard Tomic has beaten eighth-seeded German Benjamin Becker to book a place in the quarter-finals of the Mexican Open in Acapulco.

The Australian, who was a semi-finalist at Delray Beach last week, won the second-round match 6-4 3-6 6-2 on Wednesday (Thursday (AEDT).

Tomic faces the winner of the clash between countryman Marinko Matosevic and Spanish second seed David Ferrer.

Earlier, fifth seed Alexandr Dolgopolov defeated Austrian Andreas Haider-Maurer 6-2 6-3 and will face either top seed Kei Nishikori or Yen-Hsun Lu.

American Ryan Harrison knocked out defending champion and world No.10 Grigor Dimitrov 7-5 4-6 6-0.

Sydney International champion Viktor Troicki moved into his third quarter-final of 2015 with a 6-3 6-4 win over Santiago Giraldo.
