Stosur to spearhead Fed Cup charge

Sam Stosur and Casey Dellacqua will lead Australia’s charge in their first Fed Cup semi-final in 21 years next week at Pat Rafter Arena.

Captain Alicia Molik has retained the same team which beat Russia for the tie against Germany in Brisbane over the Easter weekend.

“I’m delighted to have such a strong and cohesive team and am keen to build on the terrific results we achieved against Russia in February,” Molik said.

“It’s always great to have Sam leading the team. She had a great win against Germany’s top player, Angelique Kerber, in Fed Cup two years ago and is a key to our potential success.

Joining world No.20 Stosur and 52nd-ranked Dellacqua in the four-woman team, is Ashleigh Barty and Storm Sanders.

Dellacqua and Barty have been Australia’s form doubles pairing over the past two years

“Casey has had a fantastic start to the year and continues to go from strength to strength,” Molik said. “She’s not only a terrific team player and great role model for the younger girls, but Case and Ash are a formidable doubles combination.

“We’ve seen time and time again the difference a good doubles pair can make to this competition.”

Australia hold an 8-4 record over Germany in 12 meetings, with the most recent in 2012 in Stuttgart when the visitors pulled off a 3-2 upset in the World Group play-off.
