Sharapova out of French Open

Defending champion Maria Sharapova was knocked out of the French Open at the fourth-round stage on Monday, losing 7-6 (7-3) 6-4 to Lucie Safarova.

The Czech 13th seed goes through to a first ever quarter-final at Roland Garros where she will play Garbine Muguruza, the Spanish 21st seed.
