Rain stops play at French Open

Steady rain has stopped play midway through the opening day of the French Open in Paris.

Play was able to get underway on Sunday morning, with Australian Nick Kyrgios winning an at-times-tense affair 7-6 (8-6) 7-6 (8-6) 6-4 over unheralded Italian Marco Cecchinato.

The wet weather is forecast to continue throughout the rest of the day.

Two Australians scheduled to play on Sunday have yet to take the court, with wildcard Jordan Thompson set to play Serbian qualifier Laslo Djere and John Millman taking on 15th seed John Isner.
