Australian Open finalist Andy Murray says he’s done everything possible to give himself a chance of winning his first title at Melbourne Park.

Murray recovered from a set down to defeat Czech seventh seed Tom Berdych on Thursday night and earn his fourth Australian Open final.

The British No.1 said even if his record was overshadowed in the era of tennis greats, he was delighted to have another shot at lifting the trophy.

“I played very, very well tonight,” he said.

“To be in the final four times here, I mean, because I’m surrounded by guys like Roger (Federer), Novak (Djokovic) and Rafa (Nadal), it doesn’t look like much.

“But that doesn’t happen that often. So I’m very proud of that.”

Indeed, only Stefan Edberg, Federer and possibly Djokovic have made it to as many finals in Australia as the popular Scot.

His 2015 final was earned over Berdych with solid baseline rallying and fighting qualities.

The two most important females in Murray’s life – his fiance and his coach – also featured prominently.

Murray’s recently engaged partner Kim Sears was a popular figure on social media for unleashing what looked to be a softly spoken but colourful tirade aimed at Berdych.

Coach Amelie Mauresmo, who saw her pupil into a grand slam final for the first time under her tutelage, was thrust into the limelight by Murray after the match.

“A lot of people criticised me working with her,” he said.

“But we’ve showed this week women can be very good coaches as well.

“Madison Keys who reached the semi-final, she is also coached by woman in Lindsay Davenport.

“Hopefully I can repay (Mauresmo) in a few days (by winning the final).”

Murray said there was no reason his fourth final had to go the way of the previous three in Melbourne.

“Obviously losing in the finals is disappointing but making four finals is a very, very difficult thing to do,” he said.

“I’ll try my best on Sunday.

“If it’s enough, great.

“If not, I literally couldn’t have done anything more to put myself in a better position come Sunday.”
