Karlovic wins Mexican Open tennis

Ivo Karlovic has beaten top-seeded Feliciano Lopez of Spain to win the Mexican Open in Los Cabos.

The 7-6(5) 6-2 victory in Saturday night’s final gave the big-serving Croat his second ATP World Tour title of the year and eighth overall.

The 37-year-old was playing his third final in four events after beating Gilles Muller at Newport, Rhode Island, and losing to Gael Monfils in Washington, DC.

With the hardcourt victory at Solaz Resort & Spa Los Cabos, the third-seeded Karlovic improved to 14-2 in his past 16 matches and upped his career record against Lopez to 6-3.

Australian Bernard Tomic was defeated in the second round by world No.72 Dusan Lajovic 7-6(4) 3-6 6-4.

In the doubles final, India’s Purav Raja and Divij Sharan beat Israel’s Jonathan Erlich and England’s Ken Skupski 7-6 (4), 7-6 (3).
