Halep beats Wozniacki to reach Dubai final

Top-seeded Simona Halep beat Caroline Wozniacki 2-6 6-1 6-1 on Friday (Saturday AEDT) to reach the Dubai Tennis Championships final.

Halep will face 17th-seed Karolina Pliskova in Saturday’s final.

Pliskova reached the final with a 6-4 5-7 7-5 victory over unseeded Garbine Muguruza.

Halep is looking for her second title of the year, having won in Shenzen the first week of the season.

“When I started the match I started with a bad tactic,” Halep said.

“I just wanted to hit every ball, and I did many mistakes.

“So in the second set I said that I have to change it, hit with length and open up the court.”

Pliskova will be playing in her second final of the year after getting to the championship match in Sydney last month.

She recovered from 0-40 down in the third set to take the match in 2 hours and 53 minutes, on a second match point.

“It was quite a difficult situation,” Pliskova said of the last game.

“I was already a little bit thinking about the tiebreak in the third set, but then I made the first point. And then I was thinking it’s only two points, you can make it.”
