Australia’s Daria Gavrilova has powered through to her maiden WTA final, brushing aside Germany’s Julia Goerges 7-5 6-1 in her Kremlin Cup semi-final.
Playing in her hometown of Moscow, the 22-year-old Melbourne-based world No.37, was way too strong for the 66th-ranked Goerges and will face Russian top-seed Svetlana Kuznetsova in Saturday’s decider.
Kuznetsova beat Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina 6-1 6-7 (7-2) 6-4 and victory over Gavrilova will see her usurp Britain’s Johanna Konta for the final place in the WTA Finals in Singapore.
