Jelena Dokic has suffered a first-round defeat at the WTA event in Mexico.

The Australian was upset by 21-year-old Romanian Alexandra Cadantu, going down 6-3 1-6 7-5 in a match lasting more than two hours.

Italy’s Roberta Vinci broke at the crucial moment in each set to edge out American Coco Vandeweghe 7-5 7-5 while Nina Bratchikova beat fellow Russian Anastasia Pivovarova 6-3 6-1.
