CLASH OF THE TITANS – FIVE OF THE BEST:
Novak Djokovic leads Andy Murray 15-8 in their career head-to-head, but the Brit has the edge 3-2 in their biggest clashes.
* MELBOURNE, January 2011, Australian Open final: The first meeting between the pair in a grand slam final was one to forget for the fifth-seeded Brit. Djokovic knocked out defending champion Roger Federer in straight sets in their semi-final and carried that form into the title match where he dispatched Murray 6-4 6-2 6-3 to claim his second Open crown.
* LONDON, August 2012, London Olympics semi-final: Carrying the hopes of a nation on his shoulders, Murray rose to the occasion to defeat Djokovic 7-5 7-5 en route to gold medal glory.
* NEW YORK, September 2012, US Open final: The pair didn’t have to wait long to renew hostilities. In an epic battle that lasted nearly five hours, Murray took the first two sets before Djokovic rallied to force a deciding fifth. But Murray held his nerve to claim his first career slam 7-6 (12-10) 7-5 2-6 3-6 6-2.
* MELBOURNE, January 2013, Australian Open final: Djokovic was gunning for his third Australian Open crown in a row but the Serb’s title defence looked in trouble when Murray took the first set, but he fought back to win 6-7 (2-7) 7-6 (7-3) 6-3 6-2.
* LONDON, July 2013, Wimbledon final: Murray was out to atone for his Wimbledon final defeat at the hands of Roger Federer the previous year and took the first set, but went down a break in the second before rallying to defeat the top seed 6-4 7-5 6-4 to become the first British man to win Wimbledon since Fred Perry in 1936.
