Cornet snares epic win over Radwanska

France’s Hopman Cup title hopes are still alive after Alize Cornet fought out an epic three-sets win over world No.5 Agnieszka Radwanska at Perth Arena on Friday.

Radwanska was in big trouble at a set and a break down, but the 25-year-old fought back to take the match into a deciding set.

However, Cornet came up with the goods when it mattered most, winning 6-4 2-6 7-5 in 161 minutes.

The third set alone lasted 73 minutes as both players threw everything at the contest.

France need to win the tie 3-0 in order to have a chance of reaching Saturday’s final against the top-seeded US.

Poland will secure a spot with a 2-1 victory.

World No.126 Benoit Paire will be aiming to back up Cornet’s heroics when he takes on Poland’s Jerzy Janowicz in the men’s singles rubber.

The US team of Serena Williams and John Isner secured their spot in the decider with a 3-0 win over the Czech Republic on Thursday night.
