Bencic beats Wozniacki, into Tokyo final

Rising teenage star Belinda Bencic cruised past top-seeded Caroline Wozniacki 6-2 6-4 on Saturday in the Pan-Pacific Open semi-finals in Tokyo.

The eighth-seeded Bencic had beaten Wozniacki in all three of their meetings this year and always looked likely to extend that run against the Dane, last year’s runner-up in Japan.

The 18-year-old Swiss broke Wozniacki in the first game, but looked to have given her more-experienced opponent a way back in the second set, when dropping serve for the only time to make the score 2-2.

However, Bencic – who had earlier accounted for Australian Samantha Stosur – immediately broke back and set up a final on Sunday against seventh-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland.

Radwanska defeated unseeded Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia 6-4, 6-1.
