Kyrgios is a $5.50 outsider at Sportingbet.com.au but is attracting the lion’s share of support with the online bookie. Murray is at the short odds of $1.15.

“We’ve taken five times the number of bets for Kyrgios compared to Murray,” Sportingbet’s Andrew Brown said.

“Based on their odds it would normally be the other way around, but Kyrgios clearly has the support of a nation behind him.”

A handful of optimistic punters have taken odds of $17 at Sportingbet about Kyrgios getting the job done in straight sets.

Kyrgios is $34 to get past Murray and go on and win the Australian Open title.
