Australian tennis sisters Anastasia and Arina Rodionova are fighting for the jackpot after setting up a first-time tour clash at a $50,000 event in Las Vegas.
Fourth seed Anastasia beat American wildcard Samantha Crawford 6-4 6-3 to book a date with qualifier Arina, who progressed to the last 16 with a 3-6 6-1 7-6 (7-2) win over Russian Ksenia Lykina.
“Playing against my sister tomorrow.. The toughest draw I ever had,” 30-year-old Anastasia tweeted.
While Anastasia has won Commonwealth Games gold medals for Australia and worn the green and gold in Fed Cup for years, 22-year-old Arina still officially represents Russia despite also being based in Melbourne like her older sister.
Anastasia, the world No.127, is a warm favourite to show who’s the on-court boss in the family, with Arina still making her way up the ranks and currently sitting at 328th in the standings.
