Aussie junior into US Open tennis final

Australian teenager Omar Jasika has advanced to the US Open boys’ final in New York.

Already through to the boys’ doubles decider with Japanese partner Naoki Nakagawa, Jasika kept alive his hopes of a brilliant Open double with a singles semi-final victory over German Jan Choinski on Saturday.

Jasika was leading 6-3 4-1 when Choinski retired in the brutal heat and humidity at Flushing Meadows.

Hoping to join celebrated countrymen Pat Cash (1982) and Bernard Tomic (2009) as a junior champion in New York, Jasika will play French fifth seed Quentin Hayls in the final on Sunday (Monday AEST).

Sixth seeds Jasika and Nakagawa were due to face unseeded Brazilians Joao Menezes and Rafael Matos in the junior doubles final later on Saturday.
