West Brom have signed Swedish striker Markus Rosenberg on a three-year contract, the English Premier League club have confirmed.

Rosenberg, 29, has joined the Baggies as a free agent after his contract with Werder Bremen expired at the end of last season.

He becomes new Albion manager Steve Clarke’s fourth signing of the summer.

Rosenberg, who previously played for Malmo, Ajax and Racing Santander, has been on the Baggies radar since it became clear his days at Bremen were numbered.

He held talks on Monday afternoon with Albion at their training ground and passed a medical before agreeing to sign subject to international clearance.

Clarke said: “Markus is an experienced striker, has scored goals in three of Europe’s top leagues and top European competitions, and is determined to prove himself in the Premier League.

“He will provide real competition for places in the forward areas and hopefully spur on the strikers who are already here.

“Markus has had several other offers this summer but made it clear joining West Brom was his first choice.”

Rosenberg joins midfielder Claudio Yacob, winger Yassine El Ghanassy, who is on a season long loan from AA Gent, and keeper Ben Foster as summer signings by Clarke.

He scored 40 goals in 123 appearances for Bremen.

Baggies sporting and technical director Dan Ashworth revealed Rosenberg had been on Albion’s wish list before this summer.

He said: “We have been keeping tabs on Markus for two or three years now and getting a player of his calibre is a real coup for the club.

“He had offers from Spain, Germany, China, Turkey and Russia and we are delighted he has chosen this club for the next step in his career.”
