Terry waits on UEFA ban length

John Terry is set to discover tomorrow how much, if any, of Chelsea’s Champions League defence he will miss as UEFA rule on the length of his suspension for his sending off at the Nou Camp.

The defender missed the final win over Bayern Munich through the automatic one-match ban which resulted from his red card in the semi-final second leg against Barcelona.

UEFA’s control and disciplinary body will meet tomorrow and the governing body have the power to extend the punishment.

A further suspension would rule the England international out of the Super Cup against Atletico Madrid in Monaco on August 31 and possibly part of the group stage of the Champions League.

The Blues, as winners, will enter the competition at the pool phase, despite only finishing sixth in the Barclays Premier League.

Terry, who is training with the England squad ahead of Euro 2012, was sent off in the 38th minute against Barca for violent conduct after kneeing forward Alexis Sanchez from behind.

Remarkably his dismissal did not prove costly as Chelsea’s 10 men battled back from 2-0 down without their skipper at the Nou Camp, thanks to goals from Ramires and Fernando Torres, to secure a 3-2 aggregate victory over the defending champions.

Terry’s actions meant he missed the greatest night in the club’s history, although he was allowed on to the pitch at the end to lift the trophy.
