Suarez extends Liverpool contract

Uruguay striker Luis Suarez has signed a new long-term contract with English soccer giants Liverpool.

The 25-year-old Suarez told Liverpool’s website Tuesday “to sign a new contract with Liverpool is unbelievable for me because I am so happy here at both the club and also in the city.”

He scored 12 league goals for Liverpool last season and was part of the team that won the League Cup.

He also scored in the 2-1 FA Cup semi-final victory over city rival Everton.

Suarez joined Liverpool from Dutch side Ajax in January 2011.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers said there were a few clubs who were interested in the Uruguyan international but after talks in the off-season Suarez committed himself for the long term at Anfield.
