Concern for a recovering Thomas Broich has not distracted the Brisbane Roar from the tough task that awaits in Perth on Saturday night.

Certainly the Roar don’t have to be reminded coach Ange Postecoglou will demand nothing less than perfection against the Glory.

While playmaker Broich was nursing a shoulder complaint at training on Thursday, the Roar are still smarting from the roasting they received from Postecoglou the last time they were in Perth.

Postecoglou described his side as “cowardly” and rated their effort “unacceptable” after escaping with a 3-3 draw with the Glory in last month’s round 13 clash.

“I still remember that one – I haven’t forgotten,” Roar vice-captain Shane Stefanutto laughed.

“We didn’t play as well as we would have liked. We got away with a point which was probably lucky.

“But this time we are going over with a bit of momentum and a positive mindset.”

The Roar do appear well and truly over their mid-season slump, stringing three wins together including their pulsating 3-2 win over Melbourne Victory.

But Brisbane’s form hinges on a fit Broich – and the German midfielder still seemed troubled by his left shoulder at training on Thursday after damaging it in the Victory clash.

“We will give him as long as he needs,” Stefanutto said.

“That was his first training session all week so he was a bit hesitant.

“Fingers crossed he will be okay.”

Broich was benched in the 50th minute against the Victory due to the injury but the Roar still held on to claim a memorable win and maintain pressure on ladder leaders Central Coast.

Not that Postecoglou was satisfied.

“Maybe I am a grumpy old bastard,” Postecoglou said after the match.

Stefanutto said their coach would not be letting up in Perth this weekend – and they wouldn’t have it any other way.

“He sets such high expectations and we love that,” he said.

“We love that he is never happy. That goes to show the club we want to be, and the players buy into that – we support that 100 per cent.”

The Roar’s minor premiership hopes were helped by dead-last Gold Coast holding the Mariners to a 3-3 draw on Wednesday night.

Brisbane trail Central Coast by six points with five rounds left – but only lead No.3 Perth Glory by four.

“We know they are right on our heels, and we are going to their home ground which is not easy – but we love challenges like this,” Stefanutto said.

“If we are going to be a successful club we have to go away and get results, just like we will have to in Asia (Champions League).”
