Netherlands vs Chile live scores, odds, results, teams – Soccer, Football FIFA World Cup 2014

The Oranje take on the remaining Furia Roja at Arena Corinthians in Sao Paulo to decide who will take pride of place at the top of Group B later on today. Both of these teams are coming into this game on a high after decisively beating the World Champions, with Chile winning their game 2-0 and the Netherlands brushing them aside with a 5-1 hammering. The Netherlands will be quite happy to settle for a draw as that would be enough to secure them top spot on goal difference and see them comfortably through into the next round. This may actually be all that they manage without their striker Robin van Persie to  call upon through suspension, with Memphis Depay expected to start in his stead.

Another exclusion on the team sheet in the Dutch dressing room may be that of Feyenoord’s Bruno  Martins Indi who suffered a bad concussion last week, actually losing consciousness for a few seconds, before being hauled off. Arjen Robben will no doubt have some say in the goals tonight as he has scored eight goals in his last eight internationals and four in his last four World Cup games, so Chile will need to be extra vigilant tracking the pacy winger. This will be a new experience for both teams having never played each other before at all. Chile will no doubt put in a hard working shift, just as they did against Australia and Spain, however they will be experiencing the Dutch “Total Football” for the first time and will have to adapt quickly.

Both teams will likely have a wary eye on the next round, as the winners of this clash will have to face off against the winners of Group A, which is looking likely to be the hosts Brazil. Robin van Persie has dismissed any fear of that particular fixture however, saying: “If you look ahead a bit, you are better off than if you come in second. I’d really like to play them, but a little later on in the tournament”. With van Persie out of this game due to suspension, coach Louis van Gaal may have to call on Klaas Jan Huntelaar, with van Persie telling reporters: “The boys for the front positions train fantastically. We have a lot of good players.”

In the Chilean dressing room, coach Jorge Sampaoli may have to leave out Aranguiz and Vidal, both of whom have  picked up a yellow card each in the tournament, and with Vidal also nursing a knock to his achilles tendon, Carlos Carmona will be a viable, if enforced choice in midfield. In an interview with Chile’s El Mercurio newspaper, Vidal said: “The squad is really showing its quality which is why I’m not thinking about that yellow. I just want to play and be in the group, and that is the mentality  of the whole team.”

Carlos Carmona was cited as saying: “Suspensions are inevitable in big tournaments. But we have depth. We can replace any player, no problem.”
