Borussia Moenchengladbach failed to consolidate second place in the Bundesliga by allowing Hamburger SV to salvage a 1-1 draw on Friday.
Tolgay Arslan’s 56th-minute equaliser cancelled out Mike Hanke’s opening goal and preserved Hamburg’s eight-game unbeaten run in away games. Moenchengladbach hasn’t lost in 14 games at home.
Hanke scored in the 45th minute, with a glancing header from Juan Arango’s clever free kick.
However, replays showed the Moenchengladbach forward was offside when the ball was struck.
Arslan rifled the ball in from the six-yard box nine minutes later after a corner.
Bayern Munich can reclaim second place with a win over Schalke on Sunday, while Schalke can move level on points with Moenchengladbach.
Borussia Dortmund leads the standings by two points.
