Celtic target undefeated Scottish season

Midfielder Joe Ledley says Celtic players want to remain undefeated this season as they eased into the Scottish Cup semi-final draw courtesy of a 4-0 win over Dundee United.

Celtic took one step closer to clinching the treble as they scored four second half goals against United, who had Robbie Neilson sent off in the first half.

Ledley helped the Hoops on their way when he scored his eighth of the season to open the scoring in the second half.

And the Welsh international said his teammates, who face Kilmarnock in the League Cup final next Sunday and have a 21-point lead in the Scottish Premier League, are determined to finish the season in style.

“We have got a winning mentality in the team and we just want to keep it going until the end of the season and hopefully we can do that,” Ledley said.

At Tannadice, the home side, who had knocked out Rangers in the previous round, started brightly and Jon Daly sent a header just wide before Fraser Forster saved from Johnny Russell.

However, their task was made harder just before the half-hour mark when Robbie Neilson saw red for elbowing Georgios Samaras in the face in an aerial challenge.

The Hoops made the most of their man advantage in the second half with Ledley firing them into a 53rd-minute lead.

United were then left to rue substitute Milos Lacny’s missed chance to equalise when Samaras headed in a second before Anthony Stokes and a last-minute Scott Brown penalty sealed the win.

Meanwhile Celtic manager Neil Lennon said the club may not co-operate with sections of the media until the end of the season.

The Hoops manager claims the Scottish press have deliberately tried to draw his club into the reporting of rivals Rangers’ financial crisis.

The club cancelled their usual pre-match media conference on Friday and Lennon hinted that the media blackout may continue.

“We decided not to do a press conference this week because of all the nonsense that’s going on elsewhere,” Lennon told BBC Scotland.

Reigning champions Rangers have been docked ten points after entering administration while Celtic have overturned a 15-point deficit to lead the Scottish Premier League by 21 points.

Lennon said the club was considering taking legal action at unspecified reports suggesting Celtic were trying to benefit from their Glasgow rivals financial problems.
