Aston Villa vs Hull 2014 EPL Round 3 preview, tips and teams

Paul Lambert and Aston Villa welcome Hull city to Villa Park today in what promises to be a spirited affair, with both sides looking to put early Capital One and Europa League cup exits behind them. Leyton Orient were responsible for Villa’s exit from the Capital One Cup after beating them 1-0, while Belgian team Lokeren put paid to Hull’s Europa League ambitions after defeating them on goal difference.

Andreas Weimann provided Villa with a much-needed goal in their opening game of the season against Stoke, where they eventually ran out 1-0 winners with the following game against Newcastle ending scoreless to provide Paul Lambert’s side with four points from a maximum of six. The opening game’s goal however has proved to be Villa’s only shot on target this campaign, a statistic that Paul Lambert will be hoping to change today.

Hull City have a not dissimilar record, managing a 1-0 victory over Queen’s Park Rangers after which they went on to hold Stoke to 1-1 in a scrappy away game at the KC Stadium. With the Europa league no longer on the agenda for the Tigers, Steve Bruce will be freed up to concentrate on the Premier league this season, a fact that fans are sure to have mixed feelings about.

In the last 10 meetings between Villa and Hull, the Tigers have never recorded a win, with the last victory for them at Villa Park Way back in 1967. Last season during this fixture Villa put three past the Tigers to run out eventual 3-1 winners.

This game will likely be very physical on the part of Hull City with their trademark no-nonsense, tough tackling game.

Tip: Score prediction for this game: 2-2.
