Weepu fully recovered; returns to Blues

Veteran halfback Piri Weepu is to resume training with the Blues after making a full recovery from his stroke and minor heart surgery.

After consultation with his neurologist and cardiologist, the 30-year-old halfback has been cleared to rejoin the team although he won’t be available for Friday’s Super Rugby game against the Hurricanes in Wellington.

Instead, the 71-Test halfback is expected to be in contention to to face the Waratahs in Auckland a week later.

Weepu suffered a minor stroke last month, which was diagnosed as being caused by a small hole in his heart.

A Blues statement said he had recovered fully from surgery to close the hole and has shown no residual problems.
