Rebels’ super Sefa out with broken leg

Melbourne Rebels back Sefa Naivalu’s Super Rugby season is over after he had surgery on the leg he broke in Saturday’s loss to the Sharks.

The versatile 23-year-old has remained in South Africa to have the surgery and will fly back to Melbourne later this week.

Naivalu started at centre in the Rebels’ 25-21 loss in Durban but was hurt just before halftime.

The Rebels will also be without Laurie Weeks for this Saturday’s AAMI Park match with the Bulls.

The prop was suspended on Monday night for three weeks by the SANZAR judicial officer for striking.

Weeks was sent off after a scuffle with Sharks prop Janne du Plessis and will miss the remaining two Rebels’ matches, plus a club game in Melbourne.
