Koroibete set for Barbarians berth: report

Marika Koroibete’s first taste of competitive rugby could be on the world stage, with Wallabies coach Michael Cheika reportedly organising for the former NRL star to play for the Barbarians.

Koroibete, who played in Melbourne’s NRL grand final loss to Cronulla, may line up for the invitational team against South Africa in November at London’s Wembley Stadium, according to News Corp Australia.

If the Fijian plays for the Baa-Baas, he’ll be guided by former Crusaders and Wallabies maestro Robbie Deans and England 2003 World Cup-winner Will Greenwood, who are co-coaches.

Koroibete, who courted controversy for comments that his decision to switch to rugby with Melbourne Rebels was based on financial security, could line-up alongside some of the game’s biggest names.

Australian stars Taqele Naiyaravoro, Wycliff Palu and Will Skelton are in the Barbarians squad, as well as veteran Crusaders scrumhalf Andy Ellis.
