Force hope wins will boost bottom line

The Force are finally flying on the field, and chief executive Mark Sinderberry is confident it won’t be long until the franchise’s off-field fortunes follow suit.

The Force were one of the favourites to finish last this season, but a four-game winning streak has put them on track for a shock maiden finals berth.

A win over the NSW Waratahs in Perth on Saturday night could propel the Force to the top of the Australian conference, with confidence amongst the group sky high following their dream start to the year.

Things are also moving in the right direction off the field.

The Force posted a combined loss of more than a million dollars over the previous two years, but hope they will be able to break even this season before making a profit in 2015.

The winning run is set to boost that cause by increasing crowd attendances and merchandise sales.

But Sinderberry said the bottom line was only one aspect that would be improved.

“An important component is also the overall health of the game in the state,” Sinderberry said.

“We’re seeing more kids take up the game.

“As we look forward five or 10 years, we’re going to get a much bigger groundswell of local players who are in love with the game and aspiring to be Force players.”

Sinderberry was the founding chief executive of the ACT Brumbies, playing a crucial role in turning the Canberra-based franchise into a powerhouse of the competition in the late 90s and early 2000s.

He also spent six years as the head of English premiership club Saracens, before joining the Force early last year.

Sinderberry was quick to point out the hard work put in by Force staff before his arrival, heaping particular praise on coach Michael Foley.

“He’s done a fantastic job since he got here,” Sinderberry said.

“Really, there’s only two new players in the starting 15 this season.

“It just shows how much that team has developed and worked hard to come together.”
