Dagg back on bench for Crusaders in Durban

All Blacks fullback Israel Dagg will be eased back onto the Crusaders reserve bench when a team featuring two starting changes face the Sharks in Durban this weekend.

Both changes to the side who beat the Stormers 19-14 in Cape Town are in the backline but coach Todd Blackadder has resisted a full promotion for Dagg, who has been a late withdrawal for their last two Super Rugby matches because of a hamstring niggle.

Tom Marshall is retained at fullback while the wingers have been shuffled after Johnny McNicholl fractured a fibula at Newlands.

Zac Guildford shifts from the right wing to the left, creating space for Adam Whitelock to start in the No.11 jersey.

The other personnel change sees Andy Ellis restored as the starting halfback, with Willi Heinz demoted to the bench.

Prop Owen Franks has passed a fitness test on sore ribs and will start on the tighthead side.

Winger Telusa Veainu is included on the bench and will make his debut for the franchise if needed.

The four Whitelock brothers will start a Super Rugby match together for the first time.

Adam, No.8 Luke, lock Sam and flanker/captain George haven’t started the same game since a pre-season fixture in February last year.

The previous occasion was nine years earlier, when they all attended Feilding High School and played for a hostel side against the day boys.

Victory over the Sharks would complete a clean sweep of their four regular-season matches against South African opposition.

Over the past three weeks they have beaten the Bulls (41-19) and Kings (55-20) at home before an injury-hit team upset the Stormers in impressive style.
