Collins’ baby continues recovery in Canada

The orphaned baby daughter of All Black Jerry Collins and partner Alana Madill is well enough to return to Canada with her relatives.

Three-month-old Ayla survived the car crash in southern France that killed her parents a month ago.

The infant was critically injured in the smash but surgery to relieve a fluid build-up on her brain was successful and her condition has since improved.

Her recovery has been so strong that Ayla is now able to leave France with her mother’s parents, according to former Hurricane Neemia Tialata.

Tialata, a close friend and former teammate of Collins, has been with Ayla in France, tweeting on Monday: “Thank you for all your #PrayForAyla and love.”

“She is now stable enough to travel back to Canada with her grandparents and aunties.”

Ms Madill’s sister Nora posted on Facebook confirming her niece was improving.

“Through Alana Madill and Jerry Collins’ strength and protection, their sweet bella Ayla Collins has miraculously fought to recover,” Nora Madill wrote.

“Ayla still has a long road ahead of her but she no longer requires emergency care in France.”

The baby will go to Canada where she will continue receiving treatment at a specialist children’s hospital.
