Canes call on All Blacks to play Blues

Hurricanes coach Chris Boyd has chosen his five All Blacks in the starting line-up to face the Blues in their Super Rugby match in Wellington.

Winger Julian Savea, halfback TJ Perenara, five-eighth Beauden Barrett, flanker Ardie Savea and hooker and skipper Dane Coles will back up from their All Blacks’ duties to take the field on Saturday night.

There is only one change to the run-on XV from the 27-20 win over the Highlanders before the June break, with lock Vaea Fifita coming in as an injury replacement.

Fifita takes over from Blade Thomson, who suffered a dislocated shoulder while training in the international window.

Boyd has reshuffled his reserves bench and, among the changes, is the inclusion of hooker Ricky Riccitelli for Motu Matu’u, who broke an arm while playing for Samoa.

The Hurricanes occupy the fourth of the five playoff spots available in the Australasian group and Boyd says they feel like they were building some good momentum when the competition paused for the June Tests.

“We’ll be hoping to pick up where we left off, so continuity is important,” he said.

“Our All Blacks have all come back in really good nick and they’ve slipped right back into our environment.”

Hurricanes: James Marshall, Cory Jane, Matt Proctor, Vince Aso, Julian Savea, Beauden Barrett, TJ Perenara, Victor Vito, Ardie Savea, Brad Shields, Michael Fatialofa, Vaea Fifita, Jeff Toomaga-Allen, Dane Coles (capt), Reggie Goodes. Res: Ricky Riccitelli, Chris Eves, Loni Uhila, Mark Abbott, Tony Lamborn, Jamison Gibson-Park, Willis Halaholo, Jason Woodward.
